Cindy Steele, who attended Northern from 1986-88, played a role in the historic SpaceX launch to the International Space Station. As chief of NASA's Public Engagement Division, she coordinated the logistics of VIPs at the launch site.
“It takes a village, a team of folks not only at headquarters but also Johnson Space Center and obviously here at Kennedy Space Center working with the White House and Office of the Vice President and helping facilitate any high-level visits,” said Steele in a FOX17 TV report. “It is pretty exciting. Sometimes you can get lost in the planning of the event.”
The Detroit native's portfolio includes exhibits/artifacts, astronaut appearances and guest operations, which shifted to a virtual format for the SpaceX launch because of COVID-19.
