McKenzie Leishman of Kingsley, Mich., has been named the Northern Michigan University School of Art and Design 2020-21 outstanding graduating senior.
Earning a 4.0 grade-point average, Leishman is graduating in May with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design. She earned an associate degree in visual communications from Northwestern Michigan College before transferring to NMU in the fall of 2019.
Leishman is an Adobe Certified Associate who has produced freelance identity designs for clientele. During summers, she completed internships in marketing and design for Leelanau Wine Cellars and Simplicity Sign Systems. Leishman creates intricate projects in print and digital mediums that bring forth concepts in an illustrative style.
During her time at NMU, she has been a team member of the NMU Athletic Cheer Club. Post-graduation, she will be seeking employment in the branding, marketing or front-end web design fields.
NMU's virtual commencement will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1. The ceremony will be broadcast via the internet and on WNMU-TV13. Bryan Terrell Clark, a Broadway performer who played George Washington in Hamilton, will be the commencement speaker.
