NMU Center for Rural Health to Host Health Worker Symposium

The third annual U.P. Health Worker Symposium will be held in the Northern Center on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

In an effort to continue providing community health workers with in-person engagement, networking, hands-on training and continuing education opportunities, NMU's Center for Rural Health is hosting its third annual U.P. Community Health Worker Symposium from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10 in the Northern Center.

This year's event is co-sponsored by the Michigan Center for Rural Health.

Designed for CHWs, by CHWs, the event provides a space for connection, professional development and regional updates. Sessions will cover vital topics such as electronic referral systems, food security, housing and continuing education.

Attendees will also learn about Rx Kids, a region-wide cash prescription program supporting pregnant individuals and families with youth children. Additionally, they’ll receive certification from the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan in Seizure Recognition & First Aid Training.

Currently, more than 100 individuals have registered to attend the all-day event.

“We are thrilled to see this event become a staple annual gathering that fosters collaboration and strengthens the CHW community, and the Center looks forward to continuing to host the symposium for many years to come,” said Elise Bur, NMU Center for Rural Health director.
