NMU Commencement Preview

Of the 1,120 students eligible to participate in Northern Michigan University's commencement on Saturday, April 30 (1,011 for the current semester and 109 for summer), more than 850 plan to march in the ceremony.  

The top five undergraduate programs represented are biology, nursing, art and design, medicinal plant chemistry, and criminal justice. The top five graduate programs are: master of arts in education (MAE); master of social work (MSW); master of public administration (MPA); doctor of nursing practice (DNP); and master of business administration (MBA). 

Here are other fun facts related to NMU commencement provided by the Registrar's Office:

-The graduates include 61 who have earned summa cum laude honors status (a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher).

-NMU graduates hail from 28 states beyond Michigan: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Hew Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. 

-International students from the following 10 countries will receive degrees: Austria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Republic of Korea, Liberia, Norway and Switzerland.

-The 15 DNP recipients comprise the program's largest class yet.

NMU's commencement begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Superior Dome. It will be broadcast regionally on WNMU-TV13 and streamed online at nmu.edu/commencement.
