NMU Hosts Public Panel on Refugees

Northern Michigan University will host a public panel discussion on forceful displacement and immigration titled “Refugees Now: People Over Policy” on Tuesday, Nov. 8.  Guest speaker Dilli Gautam spent 16 years in a Nepal refugee camp and now works with a Bethany Christian Services team helping refugees relocate to West Michigan.

NMU faculty members Mlado Ivanovic of Philosophy and Ryan Stock of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences will also serve as panelists. The event is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the Seaborg Center Auditorium (room 2701 of The Science Building).

Gautam is associate director of community engagement with Bethany Christian Services, based in Grand Rapids. He earned a bachelor's degree from Grand Valley State University. Read an October 2021 feature story on him here.  

The NMU student group Humanitas helped to organize the event, which is supported by several campus departments.
