In response to the community spread of the COVID-19 virus, as reflected by an increased number of positive cases among off-campus students, NMU will pause recreational sports activities at the PEIF and Wildcat Fit Zone. The two facilities will tentatively reopen Monday, Nov. 16. President Fritz Erickson said the goal is to further mitigate congregating of students, faculty and staff.

"This pause is for non-academic purposes only and does not pertain to any academic courses held at the PEIF; classes will continue to be held as they have been throughout the semester," Erickson said in a campus-wide email.

NMU will reevaluate the pause on PEIF Rec Center and Wildcat Fit Zone activities at the time they are scheduled to reopen.

Northern has also closed its dining facilities Fieras and Temaki & Tea/Smoothie King until at least Nov. 8 because of staffing limitations following a number of close contact quarantines related to positive COVID-19 cases among employees, Both facilities have already undergone deep cleaning and anticipate reopening the week of Nov. 9.
