NMU Percussion Ensemble Concert Saturday

Northern Michigan University's Department of Music will present its Percussion Ensemble's annual fall semester concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, in Reynolds Recital Hall.

Under the direction of Professor James Strain, the concert will be performed on standard percussion instruments such as drums, cymbals, gongs, marimbas, xylophones, bells, chimes and timpani. The music will include a variety of ethnic musical styles, including compositions having Mexican, Asian, Latin American, Jazz and 21st century modern chamber elements.

The program includes pieces such as La Bamba, Sonata for Timpani, Swords of Moda-Ling, Daybreak for Marimba and more.  In addition to the ensemble music, several percussion students will perform solos on marimba, snare drum or timpani.
