Northern Michigan University President Fritz Erickson announced the formation of a campus committee to conduct a national search for a new provost and vice president for academic affairs. Carol Johnson, dean of the School of Business, will serve as chair. The 25 members comprising the committee include faculty, staff, students and administrators.
“My hope is that we can make a selection of our next provost by the end of the fall semester,” Erickson said. “We would ideally like that person to be on board in time for the new academic cycle in July 2022. We have a great advantage in that Kerri [Schuiling] has graciously agreed to stay on for a year to work on critical projects. She'll be able to provide a great transition.”
Schuiling announced that she intends to step down from the post in January. She will become special assistant to the president for a year, supporting the initiatives of the NMU Center for Rural Health and also SISU: The Innovation Institute at NMU before she retires in January 2023.
"I am honored to serve the university on this important search committee,” Johnson said. “The provost position is an extremely critical position at NMU, and participating in finding a quality replacement for Provost Schuiling—who has served remarkably—will be a challenge. The committee is comprised of engaged, interested and dedicated folks I look forward to working with. "
