Northern Michigan University's Seaborg Center will offer College For Kids Jr., a hands-on, minds-on STEM program for students in grades K-6. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 28, and/or Saturday, April 18, at the Seaborg Center. Pre-registration is required with a $15 fee per class.
Descriptions of the varied classes follow:
Saturday, March 28
Kindergarten: RoboRoute. Explore the world of robotics and take on collaborative projects just like a real robot engineer.
Grade 1: Mission to Mars. Build custom LEGO rovers and navigate through a landscape, solving problems and exploring new terrain.
Grade 2: Garden of Glowing Wonders. Explore nature by discovering plant growth and why some animals glow in the dark.
Grades 3 & 4: Heat Hunters. Use cameras to measure and visualize how the sun's energy interacts with things around them.
Grades 5 & 6: Operation Eagle Eye. Master the art of drone flight through a series of challenges.
Saturday, April 18
Kindergarten: From Flower to Honey. Step into the world of bees and discover their purpose in nature.
Grade 1: From Tiny to Tall, A Life Cycle Journey. Learn about animal and plant life.
Grade 2: Weather Watchers. Learn about seasonal changes and how to apply that in a technological world.
Grades 3 & 4:Eco Detectives: Look Around! Use 360 cameras to explore local habitats, observing how elements interact.
Grades 5 & 6: Rover Ready. Explore the StarLab, researching planets and what is necessary for life.
