Ogea Recognized for Excellence in Service

Maia Ogea, medical technologist at Northern Michigan University's Health Center, is a 2021 Excellence in Service Award recipient. Along with other members of the Health Center staff, Ogea faced the threat of exposure and illness throughout the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. She was nominated for her work in response to the pandemic.

“With grace, confidence and unwavering determination, Maia proceeded in accomplishing great achievements,” stated her award description. “Even before the country had a handle on what we were dealing with, she masked up to come face-to-face with potential viral exposure without blinking an eye.”

Endless research was done to identify which COVID-19 test would be best for NMU. Due to the collection of innumerable tests, Ogea moved her laboratory to another location. She received new testing equipment, learned how to operate it, trained her staff and certified each and every piece.

“Never did she show outward signs of doubt or defeat, but always determination,” stated her award description.

NMU honored several individuals and teams during its virtual 2021 Faculty and Staff Recognition Celebration. Employees were also honored for years-of-service milestones and retirement during the event. See all of those highlighted, along with the award winners, here.
