The Northern Michigan University English Department will host an open mic reading to celebrate the life and work of Toni Morrison from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov 18, in Lydia Olson Library.
Morrison is the author of many novels, including "The Bluest Eye" and "Beloved," as well as pieces of nonfiction. She taught at Texas Southern University, Howard University, State University of New York and ultimately joined the faculty at Princeton University. She won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993 and continued to publish books until her death last summer at the age of 88.
The open mic will be held on the main floor of the library and attendees can come to listen, share a favorite passage from Morrison's work or read a tribute they've written.
