Northern Michigan University alumnus and transplant psychologist Kevin McDowell will discuss the psychology of heart and lung transplantation during a presentation titled “The Heart of the Matter” at NMU. His talk is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, in room 2906 West Science Hall.
McDowell will cover both the process of evaluating a transplant candidate and the very different process of providing treatment to transplant patients. Nuanced ethical issues will also be explored. He works as a clinical health psychologist in physiology and behavioral cardiology at Spectrum Health.
McDowell earned a bachelor's degree from NMU in 2008 in psychology/graduate prep with a minor in social service.
