Northern Michigan University is a gold sponsor for the Meijer State Games of Michigan and the sole sponsor for the event's opening ceremony. The Meijer State Games is a multi-sport competition that welcomes all athletes regardless of age or ability. 

Area middle school and high school students will soon receive a 36-page magazine featuring Career and Technical Education (CTE) academic and apprenticeship programs available locally that can lead to rewarding careers. The magazine is published by the CTE Committee comprised of Northern Michigan University, Marquette-Alger RESA, UP Construction Council and UP MIWorks.

Adam Sadberry, flutist in the Memphis Symphony, will perform at Northern Michigan University as part of the 2021-22 Siril Concert Series. His performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 in Reynolds Recital Hall. 

Northern Michigan University environmental sciences major Alexis Giesey collected and posted information about NMU's carbon emissions on the Sustainable NMU website for her senior project. She is also president of EcoReps, a student sustainability peer-to-peer education program.

Northern Michigan University will host a jazz ensembles concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Reynolds Recital Hall. Admission is free and masks are required for all individuals inside NMU facilities. 

Northern Michigan University's indoor agriculture program recently hosted a visit by representatives of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), Michigan Economic Development Corporation and local dignitaries.

Northern Michigan University Alumni Relations is partnering with the NMU Center for Rural Health for its next Northern Now digital series event. A panel of experts will discuss the social determinants of health, which are the conditions and environments that affect a wide range of health, functioning and quality-of-life outcomes and risks. Elise Bur, director of the NMU Center for Rural Health, will moderate the conversation at 7 p.m. EST Wednesday, Feb. 9. 

The influence of critical race theory (CRT) on how history is studied and taught in educational systems has become a hot-button political issue. The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center at Northern Michigan University will host a forum featuring four faculty members who will address what CRT is, why there has been so much backlash against it, and other issues related to the topic.  

Three Northern Michigan University criminal justice students were recently hired as paid cadets with the Michigan State Police at the Negaunee Post. In addition, two unpaid internship positions at the same post have been filled by NMU criminal justice students.
