Northern Michigan University's Hospitality Leadership Department will host a themed three-course, fine-dining experience before the Saturday, Feb. 24 NMU Theatre and Dance production of Puffs. The event will take place in the newly branded restaurant North Fork, NMU's Teaching Kitchen, in the Northern Center. The space will be transformed with spellbinding decor that reminds guests of a “certain school of magic and magic.”
The menu features: Staghorn Healing Soup, a Swedish split-pea creation with oyster mushrooms and topped with cashew crema, seared mushrooms and crispy chickpeas, served with cardamom and caraway crumpets; Dueling Wands, a choice of carved rost chicken or smoked brûléed tofu, served with carrots, golden beets and dairy-free Irish leek champ, served with clashing streams of mushroom-tarragon sauce and crispy peas; and Wigby's Delicacy, a scrumptious plum pudding accompanied by spiced poached pears, gingersnap crumble and orange hard sauce, topped with spun sugar, cherry pearls and fried mint.
The dinner begins at 5 p.m. for Headmasters ticket holders, who will participate in a potion creation course and have seats facing all the action. The cost for the course and dinner is $80, or $100 with a show ticket. Seating for Future Magician ticket holders is at 5:30 and costs $60, or $80 with a show ticket. All can be purchased at nmu.universitytickets.com.
The Puffs-themed dinner is a collaboration involving the Hospitality Leadership Department's events management and professional cooking II courses, along with theater scenic design. It is part of three-event series put on this semester by the events management course. All events are student-led and planned, from menu creation and cooking to decor and entertainment components.
The next event in the series is the Longer Days Luncheon, A Culinary Community Festival taking place on Sunday, March 31. For more information on our upcoming events, follow the Jacobetti Complex page on Facebook.
