The Student Scholarship Summit held Feb. 20 as part of the Peak25 professional development conference at Northern Michigan University offered a new opportunity for NMU students to showcase their research, scholarly activity and creative inquiry through poster presentations. A pool of judges representing academia, community and industry awarded financial prizes to these top three presenters and the People's Choice winner:
First place ($750): Lars Anderson, fisheries management major, “Substrate selection by juvenile burbot (Lota lota) in a laboratory setting”
Second place ($450): Kolibri Drobish, biology, “Difference of Larvae Abundance in the Purple Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia purpurea) Inquiline Community”
Third place ($150): Sara Lindeblad, psychology, “The Relationship Between Cognitive Flexibility and Rumination: An Eye-tracking Study”
People's Choice ($750): Paige Dolph, psychology, "Changing Implicit Associations with 5-weeks of Counter Stereotypic Videos"
Another opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines to share their activities via research posters and oral presentations, which include creative writing and artwork, is NMU's Celebration of Student Scholarship.
