Wildcat Research Day Set for Nov. 17

A student presents research during 2025's Winter Research Day, which has now been moved to the fall semester and renamed "Wildcat Research Day."

NMU will host Wildcat Research Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the Glenn T. Seaborg Center’s Mead Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Previously called “Winter Research Day,” the event includes undergraduate 3-minute presentations (3MP) from 9 to 10:30 a.m., graduate 3-minute thesis presentations (3MT) from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., fellowship and scholarship workshop from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in room 3617 of the Science Building, and a scholarly buzz session for faculty from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Lunch will also be served from 12 - 1:30 p.m. in 2702 TSB.

These presentations challenge students and faculty to clearly explain their research to a non-specialized audience in only three minutes. Prize money is available for both 3MP and 3MT winners, runner-ups and people’s choice presenters.

The fellowship and scholarship workshop will showcase opportunities to study, research and teach abroad, as well as provide feedback on mock application essays.

“We only have two university-wide opportunities for students to publicly demonstrate competence,” said Tesse Sayen, director of Research Development and Sponsored Programs. “This event is the only opportunity in the Fall semester… This is a really fun opportunity for our presenters as well as attendees.”

Participation in presentations is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with registration running through Nov. 9.
