NMU Pow Wow March 30

The Native American Student Association  at Northern Michigan University will present the  "Learning to Walk Together" traditional pow wow. The event will be held on Saturday, March 30, in the Marquette National Guard Armory. General admission is $5; NMU students are admitted free with ID. Elders and children under 10 are free. 

Andary Surprised with Award Notification

Construction management professor Michael Andary ('06 MPA) was visibly perplexed when administrators and colleagues recently walked into his Jacobetti Complex classroom and purposely interrupted a morning lecture. His confusion soon gave way to a smile, followed by a round of applause from his students. The delegation was there to deliver a surprise announcement. Andary is the first member of the NMU Faculty Association to receive the university's Distinguished Faculty Award. NMUFA represents those who teach in the College of Technology and Occupational Sciences.

EAN Reaches 3,500 Subscribers

More than 3,500 Upper Peninsula residents have subscribed to Northern Michigan University's Educational Access Network. NMU administrators marked the milestone recently by honoring staff members involved in the effort and distributing 3,500 pieces of candy to match the number of subscriptions. The EAN provides broadband internet service through the university's high-speed LTE wireless broadband network to learners of all ages in a growing number of Upper Peninsula locations.

Best Buddies Take Plunge for Special Olympics

NMU's Best Buddies chapter participated in Sunday's local Polar Plunge for Special Olympics, which raised $13,000. Best Buddies International is a nonprofit dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The NMU Best Buddies team consisted of chapter members and Special Olympics athletes.
