A volcano erupted twice, spewing “lava” water vertically into the air, during a demonstration on a Northern Michigan University parking lot. Because it is difficult to predict volcanic eruptions, much less study them from a safe distance, assistant professor Hans Lechner used an analog model to create an attention-grabbing simulation of the effect for his physical geography class on Wednesday.

Thirteen NMU students traveled to San Diego Oct. 18-22 for the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) International Conference. They attended presentations by keynote speakers, workshops and breakout sessions, and networked with fellow pre-professionals as well as practitioners in the field.

Representatives of companies on the cutting edge of Michigan's evolving cannabis industry will discuss careers, innovations and trends during a panel presentation at Northern Michigan University. The free event is scheduled from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in Reynolds Recital Hall.
