The Northern Michigan University French program presents its 12th annual classic silent horror film with grand piano accompaniment at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in the Ontario room of the Northern Center. The film to be shown this year is The Hunchback of Notre Dame, accompanied by Bob Buckhoe on piano. 

Northern Michigan University's Career Services and Alumni Relations offices have teamed up to establish the Alumni Resource Network, an effort to connect students to NMU alumni who can offer career and professional development advice and opportunities.

Internationally recognized economist Deirdre McCloskey will explain how the world has gotten exponentially wealthier since 1800, and why it will continue on that trajectory, when she presents “It's Good to Be Rich: Why Liberalism Works” at Northern Michigan University. Her talk begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in 1100 Jamrich Hall.

Michelle Leigh Farell, a professor of Spanish and Portuguese at Fairfield University, will discuss new audiovisual landscapes in Cuba when she presents “Is Havana Isolated, or is Washington?” at Northern Michigan University. Her talk is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in 1311 Jamrich Hall. 

Northern Michigan University alumna and former accounting professor Carol Johnson is the new dean of the NMU College of Business. She had previously served in an interim capacity. The NMU Board of Trustees approved her appointment at its September meeting.

Northern Michigan University's Marketing & Communications Office presents the Day in the Life of a Wildcat Vlog Competition. The deadline for video submissions is Friday, Oct. 18 at 11:59 p.m. 

The legacy of the NMU Puckheads fan club will live on as the torch is passed and a new tradition begins. The amped-up student section, now known as "The Wild," will make its debut at the Berry Events Center for this weekend's NMU home hockey series against Michigan State.

A new school year brings a new name for Northern Michigan University's Pep Band: the Twisted Whiskers. The group will perform at NMU Wildcat hockey's first regular season series against the Michigan State Spartans on Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12.

The Northern Michigan University music department presents the first symphony orchestra concert of the year at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in Reynolds Recital Hall. The concert will feature Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis performing his own composition titled Ulysses Violin Concerto. 

Northern Michigan University's 52nd annual fall semester job fair for students and alumni will be held from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the Northern Center. About 80 employers are scheduled to attend. Students and alumni who log into Handshake and join the event, then check in at the job fair, will have their names entered into a drawing for one of 10 prizes.
