Northern Michigan University Honors Program students and their faculty mentors will present their research projects from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Lydia Olson Library atrium. Admission is free and open to the public. 

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion is featured in TIME magazine's new "100 Next" listing of rising stars. She will perform at Northern Michigan University's Vandament Arena at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17. Ticket prices are $25 for NMU students and $35 for general public. Tickets are on sale now at NMU EZ Ticket outlets and online. 

The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present "Get Your Docs in Order: Advanced Directives" from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Lost Creek Community Center, 200 Lost Creek Dr. in Marquette. The program is free, but advance registration is requested by Monday, Nov. 25.

The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning presents "Creation of the Phil Niemisto Statue" from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center, lower level of the Peter White Public Library. The advance registration deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Award-winning pianist Daniel Hsu will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Reynolds Recital Hall at Northern Michigan University. He was the bronze medal recipient at the 2017 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, a prestigious event held every four years. 

Mental health providers often work in the field providing direct support to first responders in a crisis situation, so understanding the psychology of first responders and adapting to situational demands is important. Northern Michigan University alumna Kammie R. Juzwin (BS ‘82) will address this topic at the next NMU Psychological Science Colloquium at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 in West Science room 2904.

The Behavioral Education, Analysis and Research (BEAR) Center at NMU provides critical therapy services to children with autism and other behavioral disorders, both at the campus clinic and at practicum sites across the Upper Peninsula. Students who have to travel offsite now have a safer, more reliable mode of transportation than their personal vehicles, particularly in winter driving conditions.

Michigan is on the cusp of explosive growth in the cannabis marketplace, with the first recreational dispensaries scheduled to open in early 2020. Northern Michigan University alumnus Brandon Frisk is in the thick of this fast-paced and highly competitive industry. 

NMU President Fritz Erickson opened a recent campus budget forum with assurances the university is in good financial condition, despite state higher education funding below 2002 levels and demographics that challenge enrollment growth.

Students of Northern Michigan University's School of Music, Theatre and Dance finished first and second in two categories at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition held Nov. 2 at Hope College in Holland.

NMU College Democrats and College Republicans will co-sponsor a presentation titled "Hate Speech: A Lecture by the Heritage Foundation's Arthur Milikh." The event will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in Jamrich 1322. It is free and open to the public. NMU's Center for Academic and Intellectual Freedom is hosting the talk. 

Northern Michigan University's School of Education will co-sponsor a presentation by Holocaust survivor Martin Lowenberg at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in Reynolds Recital Hall. Admission is free.

The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning presents “Grandview Marquette: Then and Now,” a program on the former orphanage's transition to an apartment facility. The event will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at 600 Altamont St. 

The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present “Bringing Smiles Across the Miles” from 7-8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the heritage room at Peter White Public Library.

The next Visiting Writers Program event at Northern Michigan University will feature an interactive augmented and virtual reality installation comprised of poetry, documentary video and sound. Jen Scappettone and Judd Morrissey will speak about their project, Lament; Or, The Mine Has Been Opened Up Well, which is based on research in the Copper Country. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 at the Northern Center.

The Northern Michigan University English Department will host an open mic reading to celebrate the life and work of Toni Morrison from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov 18, in Lydia Olson Library. 

The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning presents "Cyberlaw, Fake News, Data Collection and Your Rights" from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the heritage room at the Peter White Public Library. 

NMU first-generation college students, whose parents or guardians did not obtain bachelor's degrees, are invited to gather at the Wildcat statue at noon on Friday, Nov. 8, for a group drone photo. A reception with pizza, Wildcat cookies and other treats will follow in Harden Hall.  

Northern Michigan University will embark on its third “Food 4 Fines” donation event, in which students who help those in need by contributing items to the NMU Food Pantry can alleviate their parking fines.
